“A View”
The theatrical works of Buru Egonaku playwright/director Anasako Shinichi freely traverse dimensions. This work is set in parallel worlds that seem to embody the human heart and mind, multiple worlds of past and future, up and down, side by side.
The story takes place in the past, when Hizashi travels back in time to repair his relationship with Mori after she dumped him at age 18, and in the future, when Hizashi encounters the time-traveling Mori as well as Nomi, a woman deeply involved with the two.
On yet another axis, a woman named Sekai reminisces about her memories, while voices (a woman, Mori’s long-lost father, and a spider) represented fleetingly in the subtitles repeatedly emerge and part. Intertwining voices and words, overwritten memories, and a narrow landscape of dreams between life and death. Digital music and noise reverberate in a white, inorganic space, consisting only of a thin steps like an unfolded fan and a back wall on which the words of the voices are projected. The timeless interactions among the characters that unfold there give theatergoers a taste of a nostalgic future.
