“STREAM”
The Covid pandemic had swept the globe. The first and second waves shattered our daily lives, trapping us in a present with no clear future. Stream is a solo performance by Pijin Neji spun off from neji&Co.’s Covid trilogy Sign, Cue, and Out, creations stemming from that sense of time.
Live voices, recordings and processed vocals overlap, dispassionately marking out social news and personal events on the same timeline. The light shifts as if to interrupt this flow, and the drawn-out movements and repetition of voices bring our attention constantly back to the here and now, leaving the viewers’ senses in a suspended state.
The cumulative fragments of life and thoughts ultimately come together in a single flow, embracing creation and labor, birth and death, and even the swells of economy and war. This work awakens dim memories and imprints them on the body. It is a record of the past but possesses a power beyond that. It is an archive, a small but clear mirror illuminating our lives since the pandemic.
