Everyone has their own version of kawaii (“cute”)—Embodying this new sense of value for kawaii created by four-woman band CHAI, called “NEO Kawaii,” in a pop style through their music, the band held performances in Laos and Cambodia to commemorate the 50th anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Friendship and Cooperation.
Even if you’ve never listened to CHAI’s music before, once you hear them perform live, you can feel empowered by their sound, which is brimming with positivity. The Japan Foundation delivers a behind-the-scenes look at the nights that CHAI and concert-goers created together in NEO Kawaii fashion, stirring up the youth of Laos and Cambodia.
