“Happy Song”

Happy Song
Tokyo-based actress SAKURA Mei returns to her hometown after some time upon the death of her elder brother in a traffic accident, then becomes stuck there due to Covid. She does nothing but play video games day and night until suddenly an elderly man enters the room eating popcorn, insisting that this is his house… Mei meets numerous elderly residents of the area who knew her brother, a former caretaker, and unexpectedly discovers drama in what she had thought a dreary town. Lead actor OKADA Tadao, aged 95 at the time of shooting, impresses with his mingling of truth and fantasy.

OiBokkeShi
A theater group founded by actor/caregiver SUGAWARA Naoki in the town of Wake, Okayama Prefecture in 2014. The lead actor is 95-year-old OKADA Takao. The group presents shows created together by the elderly and their caregivers and holds workshops incorporating theatrical techniques into dementia care, based on the idea of bringing the wisdom of theater to the world of senior care and the depth of senior care to the world of theater. The approach of using theater to confront the challenges of a super-aging society has been taken up by documentaries and has attracted attention in recent yields from various fields.
