These two plays were directed by MIYAGI Satoshi, the artistic director of the Shizuoka Performing Arts Center (SPAC). Miyagi, a world-renowned theater director, was invited to the Avignon Festival numerous times.
Olivier PY, after watching on the platform “Stage Beyond Borders” MIYAGI’s mise-en-scène of his plays, discusses several topics in this series of interviews: the genesis of his writing projects, the themes and philosophical meanings of his plays, his thoughts on MIYAGI’s work, the upheaval in our perception of the social role of fiction (the theater) and reality (our daily lives), and the importance of seeing plays live.
In this interview, the fruit of international cooperation between Japan and France, Olivier PY gives us his take on theater today.
