“Ise-Daikagura: Bringing Happiness ”

A troupe walks from house to house all across Japan, performing lion dances and cleansing bad luck. This is Ise-daikagura, a tradition with over 400 years of history. The troupe performs rituals said to bring good fortune, as well as acrobatic acts known as hokagei that delight and entertain local residents. Daikagura performers travel almost the entire year, bringing happiness to those eagerly awaiting their visits. Generations of performers have been inspired by the hope of bringing people joy. Their art is a form of prayer, and is honed over their daily travels. Join them on the road, and explore the true meaning of Ise-daikagura in a unique fusion of faith and performance.
