“Misty Mansion”

DAZZLE, led by HASEGAWA Tatsuya, is noted for its storytelling pieces despite its background in street dance. The dance is created from ideas that are distinctly different from conventional dance language and draws a wide range of audiences. Misty Mansion is DAZZLE’s signature piece, using text to tell a profound story of brotherly self-sacrifice. Its performance at the Sibiu International Theater Festival in Romania earned a standing ovation before the final scene began.
Misty Mansion was choreographed from a deep understanding of the traditional Japanese aesthetic sense, using items such as shoji paper screens, fox masks, and Japanese umbrellas.
Japanese culture is known for its emphasis on light and shadow, such as the blending of the two elements in the “yugen” of Noh theater, which blurs the boundaries between the world of humans and spiritual beings.
Misty Mansion is a fresh interpretation of the Japanese folklore “fox bride”, an expression which also refers to rain falling when the sun is shining.
