Port B
Formed in 2002 by Akira Takayama, Port B is a creative unit that takes on a different form with each project. They have been developing projects that go beyond the framework of theater and engage with cities and societies across the world. In recent years, they have expanded their activities to include collaborations with different fields such as art, literature, tourism, architecture, and education, and are working to apply theatrical ideas to tourism, urban projects, educational projects, and media development.
“Tokyo/Olympics” was a bus tour project organized in November 2007, when Tokyo was bidding to host the 2016 Olympics. It was organized with the iconic Tokyo tour operator Hato Bus. A legendary former guide who worked during the 1964 Tokyo Olympics joined the tour alongside a current Hato Bus guide and a Port B performer disguised as another guide, taking us to famous spots like Yoyogi National Stadium, Ueno and Akihabara. This “tour performance” allows us to rediscover Tokyo by listening to the stories of 1964 while taking in the current cityscape.
